Dansgroep Amsterdam

Recently i was invited to work with choreographer Sjoerd Vreugdenhil and Dansgroep Amsterdam on the performance " Viewture 2".
This performance in three parts ( Sjoerd Vreugdenhil- one i was body, Ivgi & Gerben - i could almost taste you baby and Jussi Nousiainen- Awoom ) was an incredible struggle of work, pain, esthetics and sensuality.

Sjoerd Vreugdenhil developed the set design for Viewture II
by first of all fulfilling his colleagues’wishes, and in a further
stage responding to the result of this design. This gave him
an empty, but spacious feeling to work with. He cast his
mind back over his past, and thought about how his body
felt when he was in his physical prime.Mental flashbacks of
choreographies he had danced in gave rise to the question
of how it feels to live in a thick cloud for almost ten years.
It was not physically or mentally oppressive, but it was very
limited in comparison to his time as a dancer. In order to
physically translate these thoughts and feelings, he asked
the dancers to draw on emotions from their own young life.
The creative process turned into an intensive cooperation
between the choreographer and the dancers. The resulting
choreography features five characters who each form part
of Vreugdenhil’s dance memory in an autonomous world of
the present. Sculptor Cedric Laquieze created a metaphoric
object to represent the theme, thus catalysing the dancers
both mentally and physically.

The sculpture in question is one of the flower skeleton series that the dancers affectionately called Pina.
